Healthy Self Esteem

I will be the first to admit that my self-esteem is lacking.  But one of the things that just breaks my heart is to see young girls with self-esteem issues.  The world is hard enough for kids ... and without a faith in themselves, it's just so very sad.

Thats why, a couple minutes ago, all I could do was laugh!

I was looking at a new Etsy store I found, looking at the pictures of each cute little skirt.   Princess came and snuggled up next to me, wrapping her arms around me.  I smiled at her and, pointing at all the photos, said "aren't those really cute?"  To which Princess replied: "Only one thing could be cuter.  If I was wearing them!"

My first reaction was that of: uh oh, is my child conceited?!  Then I looked into her big hazel eyes, and her impish grin, and just laughed.  No, she just has a healthy self esteem, a confidence that I lack.  She didn't mean that other girls were not as cute, but just her sweet and comedic way of saying "yes mom - those are cute, and I love them! (by the way, did you catch the hint that I really want one?)"

There will be enough people in our children's lives to pull them down, to make them doubt their worth.  I don't want to be one of those people in my child's life.  I want my children to know that regardless of the world around them, I find endless value in each of them.  They are my children, and children of our Father in Heaven.  They are each of infinite worth.  If only I could make that a truth that they would never, ever forget.

Nail Biter

I used to have a really bad habit as a kid.  I bit my nails.  Now, I cringe at the very thought of fingernails against teeth.  I am SO over that bad habit.

Or so I thought.

Last night, we watched our recorded LOST premiere ...  Holy Suspense Batman!  Half way through, I realized I was biting my fingernails!  ACK!  Apparently my bad habit is still there, buried deep in my subliminal mind - surfacing when I'm hanging in suspense.

Thanks a lot ABC.  I am now going to have to watch your network while keeping my hands busy ... and I don't think you can possibly understand how difficult is is to do an embroidery while trying to watch for answers to the dozens of questions every minute of your show creates.

There goes my relaxing evenings ... at least for the nights that Lost is on.

Where is the snow?

I love Christmas time ... hot cocoa, Christmas Carols, gift wrap, ribbon and bows atop the gifts, shopping, and being with family.

AND I love snuggling up with hot cocoa, watching the snow fall outside with the Nutcracker Suite playing in the background.  There's just one thing cramping my style.  There is NO snow.  Not a single bit.  I am missing the snow.  I didn't grow up in cold places, so I didn't really expect a white Christmas back then.  But now, having lived in a place with four seasons for 10 years, I want my white Christmas (stomp foot, stick out pouty bottom lip).  humph.

We are headed to Colorado in a couple weeks, so hopefully they are having better luck with the snow than I am having, sigh.

LET IT SNOW ALREADY!  ;-)

As if to make me laugh at myself, an hour after I typed this post, it began to snow.

Anyone LOVE "While you were Sleeping"?

Would you believe my 16 year old neice JUST watched that movie.  At the end, she shrugged and said, that was okay.  I think my SILs and I had to restrain ourselves from throwing the candy at her.  I mean, it's even one of my DH's favorite movies!  It's just the perfect romance comedy with just enough random humor to keep you laughing days later.

First off, I love her name in that movie:  "Lucy Eleanor Moderatz".  Then the quotes - they are awesome!  A couple of my favorites:

~Joe Jr:  Hey Luce, Tuesday Night.  I got Ice Capades.  I knows a guy."

~Lucy: "I should have got a blue spruce, they're lighter."

~ Elsie: "These mashed potatoes are so creamy"

My husband's favorite isn't a quote at all - It's Christmas morning when they show the paper boy delivering papers.  We all start LOL before the part even comes, just with the anticipation of that part!

What are your favorite parts of "While You Were Sleeping"?
