My Geek of a DH

So my sweet geek of a DH found the blogging world. After reading my blog, he decided to join the bandwagon. Now, I admit there is something very theraputic about blogging ... it is simply online journalling, except that people get to read and comment on your diary :) But come on! He's a geek in every sense of the word, yet *I* (the non-geek), introduced it to him. Hmmmm honey, sounds familiar. How about how we were in college when we met, and you were watching me while I studied on the computer in the library. I copy&pasted something into word, and you asked me incredulously "How'd you do that?!" Yes dearest ... in your second year of college you didn't know how to copy and paste! Granted, I can't make too much fun, since you went on to graduate with a B.S. in "International Computer Networking and Design" You've left me far behind, so it still gives me a little pleasure to be able to introduce you to something in the technical world.

Warning: This may be one of the geekiest blogs ever :)

How did I meet such a geek? Let me remeniss! My first year of college, I started in the summer session. I had been at Rick's College for 2 months when Fall semester began. The second Sunday of the semester (the beginning of September 1999), I had just met with my bishop, where I'd been called as the Compassionate Service leader. I was happily waiting for my roomates outside the cafeteria, and pulled out a letter from my boyfriend on a mission. I began to write him back, telling him about my new calling, when a guy sat down on the couch next to me. I glanced up, and saw that the cutie was looking at me, so I smiled at him. Our first conversation ... immortilized for eternity:
Him: "So, ya writing a letter?"
Me: "yes"
Him: "to a boyfriend?"
Me: (hmmmmm, long pause, while I check the guy out with my perephial vision) "to a good friend"
I still can't believe myself, but this guy was CUTE! He, "J", ended up eating dinner with me, and I commited the unforgivable sin of ditching my roomates for dinner to eat with a cute boy (I still hear about it from them ... girls - he was the ONE!!!) J & I were pretty much inseperable after that. We did everything together, and very quickly became best friends. He was one of the few "kindred spirits" that I always looked for in my life (probably from reading too much Anne of Green Gables). And J was really a hottie :)

So, only 4 month later, December 14th 1999, he proposed. It was my last day of finals. I had only one left - my child/human development final. I was studying like crazy, when J called and asked if I would like to go on a drive with him, relax a little to clear my mind for my final. I told him no, I had to study, and he said, oh, well I'm downstairs - please? I said I'd come down in a few minutes when I was out of my pjs and bunny slippers. So, just after I changed, my mom called at 8:30am. Now we were trained as children - never call anyone before 9 am or after 9 pm - never ever, so I was worried someone had died, but she just wanted to chat! It was soooo weird, she took a sudden intrest in J, and asked if I was doing anything with him that day. I told her he wanted to take me to relax before my final, but I was NOT going, cause I needed to study. Then the weirdest conversation ever: You should go with him, it will probably help you to relax - you'll do better on your final... uh okay mom, I'm so confused! (DH had called my parents to get their permission the night before, so my mom was anxious). So, a very confused me went downstairs to see him. As we got in his car, I proceeded to tell him about the wierd conversation I'd had with my mom. Luckly I didn't notice the panicked look on his face, lol. Our drive took us to our special spot ... a little bridge over a large stream. We'd been there a bunch, walking on the path by the railroad tracks, sitting by the stream and talking about everything. It had become our special place. It had snowed like crazy, and there was almost 2 feet of snow on our bridge, but we started walking across it. J said "oh, I forgot something in the car", and went back. He brought out a box, tied with a bow. (Now, a little background: I had told him how romantic it would be to have a stuffed animal with a ribbon around its neck, and the ring tied to the ribbon ... I thought that would be such a sweet way to propose ... this was one of about 100 senerios I'd told him would be so romantic). So, I opened the box to find a cute beanie buddy with a ribbon around it's neck. My heart jumped! I pulled it out, looking at the ribbon, trying to not obviously look for a ring. There was no ring. J was watching me the whole time, with the sweetest look on his face. I tried to hide my disapointment, and told him it was so sweet, and thank you! He smiled at me with the biggest grin, pulled a small box out of his coat, and kneeled on one knee in the 2ft deep snow. I seriously stopped breathing! He opened up the box, and asked me if I would marry him - be his best friend forever. I somehow gasped out a yes, and wrapped my arms around him.

5 months later, in May 2000, I married my best friend for all eternity in the Salt Lake City temple. It was the most beautiful day of my life. (sigh:)
