South Africa ... the possibilities.

We've been offered the relocation to South Africa. At first we were terrified, then with a lot of prayers, a ton of research, and a little networking through our church, we've decided to accept the job ... contingent on the offered Salary of couse. The company is expecting their contract to be secured by July/August, and then they will make us a formal offer. Once we accept, it will take about 3 months to get us relocated.

SO....

South Africa! Wow! (deep breath innnn! Aaaand out!) I am really excited. The weather has been compared to San Diego, except the SanDiego Zoo pales in comparison to the natural habitat of African wildlife. All our family's favorite animals natural habitats in one country!

My favorite animal, the girraffe:
Did you know they can weigh up to 3000 lbs?!

4 Year old DS's favorite animals, the lions (roaaaaaar!):

2 year old DD's favorite animal (yes mommy, zebras my favorite, I have a zebra for my birthday? I have a baby zebra for my birthday, yes mommy?)

Then, of couse, 1 year old Miss AngelBaby's favorite animal, the Monkey (heeeheeee! I think it's her long-lost twin!):

And Last, but not least, DH's two most favorite animals ever, the Hippo, and the Pinguin (Yes, there are African Penguins!):

To make life even sweeter, we've already found the car that was just made for us on Johannesburg's craigslist - isn't she a beauty?! (ROFL like crazy!)

The crowning jewel? The research we did regarding bring Maggie with us was outdated, and all we have to do is pay for a $15 permit, and she doesn't even have to be quarentined. Hey dog, wanna go to South Africa?!

Now we we are simply researching everything we can about Jo'Burg and Petoria, South Africa. We're excited, and hope that the contracts work out. Here's to the next 3+ months flying by!

I hear it's very difficult to smack a hippo on the butt and live to talk about it.

A guy can dream though.

My cousin lived in SA for three years while he worked for the US embassy. He really enjoyed it. He has three small children. It was a different, but very special experience. Good luck!

My husbands aunt lived in South Africa for about 5 years. All of her kids came back to the states with British accents. The collected TONS of baskets from their travels there and now they have the most amazing family room...all African. I would LOVE to live abroad. I hope you post all sorts of wonderful things about your time there.
