Expedit, aka Ikea Cubbies

Remember when I was jealous of all the awesome craft rooms on Flicker?  Well, soon I will have my own cool crafting area!

We got the Ikea Expedit shelfs, and I asked my husband to help me when he got home.  He jokingly said "I have to work *really* late today", so I sent him this cartoon I found on Wasted Talent:

Luckly it was MUCH easier to put together than the comic portrays!  It took some definite muscle on hubby's part, but it only took about 15-20 minutes.  What I don't understand is WHY doesn't ikea include an allen wrench that can go into our electric drill?!

Now I am organizing the room, filling the shelves with all my craftiness - it's WONDERFUL!

Next to assemble is the Expedit desk, which will go to the side of the shelves to give me some workspace, and a place for my sewing machine.   Hopefully, when all is assembled, I will have a wonderful space to CREATE!

Dishes

I came in the kitchen today to find my kids doing dishes.  I turned to my sisters to scold them - I assumed that the 15 and 18 year old had ditched their chores onto my kids.  Turns out, my kids were the ones to initiate the dish-doing.

After the dishes were clean and put away, Princess came to me, and asked "Can we have lunch and dinner now?!"  I asked if she was hungry, and she replied, "no, but we want to do more dishes!"

Fire Safety

The kids have been working together to build a lego castle, and I have been organizing bookshelves.  I was sorting through the books, when I heard Princess say in an urgent voice: "OH! SuperBoy, what if there's a fire?!  We forgot to make two safe ways to get out of the castle!"  SuperBoy responded "Oh, man!  Now we gotta start all over!"   This little interchange was followed by the sounds of legos being scraped off the mat.

I guess fire safety IS important when you are building a medieval castle, complete with fire-breathing dragons.  Never underestimate emergency exit plans.

There's No Place Like ... Home?

We're visiting family out of state for spring break, while back at home, my poor husband is FREEZING!

He sent me this picture from 9am:

That's our front yard.  Those are TALL trees that stand up straight, now transformed into pitiful snowy willow-looking trees, frozen to the ground.  I'm shocked they are still standing.  It's supposed to snow again today and tomorrow ... I don't know if our trees can make it.

Our neighbors around the corner ended up with a very damaged trailer, and a very sad tree:

Oh Spring!  Why did you leave us?

Red Table?

Do you have, or know anyone who has a RED KITCHEN TABLE ?  We have a beat up, but insanely sturdy pine table that I want to re-finish.  For some rediculous reason, I want to paint it RED.  Not like a fire engine, rather shabby chic, with some distressing RED.

Hubby is less than thrilled with the idea.  He thinks that if I'm so faint over the color red, I ought to just paint the table legs.

Anyone have a red table I could show my sweet hubby a photo of?

Or am I just crazy?  (feel free to answer!)
